bar in the heart of Prague
Who am I and why did I open this bar?
My story began in 2006, when I traveled to Ireland. It was a beautiful summer and I was after school. I had no work experience and didn't speak a word of English. My first job I got was in the small village of Glengarriff, west Cork, in a small family run hotel. I started by cleaning tables, packing cutlery, making coffee and worked my way up to high positions in gastronomy. I worked alongside general managers and was even a manager in the Irish Army for a while. In 2013, I returned to the Czech Republic. I opened a small pub in Nuslí. After a few years, I got the opportunity to open a second business, and by the third of all good things, I came across the premises where this bar is now. I still can't believe I was able to open this bar. Why did I name the bar The Quays? I miss traveling so much. I like foreign countries and foreign languages and cultures. Since I decided to stay in the Czech Republic, the best choice was to open a bar where foreigners and people from all over the world would be welcome and I wouldn't have to travel, but they would come to me. I was looking for a name that would express that everyone is welcome and can feel safe at my bar. I'm of the opinion that it doesn't matter what your political affiliation is, your religious affiliation, what your skin color is, if you're gay, or where you come from. In my eyes, we are all equal and have the right to our opinion. I was looking for a name that would sum it all up. Then I came across the concept of a bay, a lighthouse, a pier. They are symbols of when a ship comes home and sees the bay, so everyone knows they are home and safe. A synonym for all this is the quay. And since I lived in Ireland for seven years and almost every town had a Quays bar, the choice was clear. However, opening a bar in the post-corona era was very brave and I didn't know that a second wave could happen. Keeping the bar was very difficult and it took a lot of energy. Therefore, I will be happy for the support of all of you. Come visit me. I really like meeting new faces and new people from every corner of the world. I look forward to meeting you!
